THE PHOTO IS OF EMILY AT MY PLACE ON CLINTON ST.
PINTO JAMES F., NYC 1983-1984
One of the first people I met upon moving onto Clinton Street in the Lower East Side was Emily XYZ, who became my best friend, inspiration, and a kind of sounding board. We spent hours and days talking about art and poetry, from Lou Reed to Swineburne, and I will owe her a debt of gratitude for all my days. In 1982, I bought a Tascam 38 eight-track machine, and at first, having only a six-track mixer, I made up Y-cables so I could mix all eight channels; I had to pay attention to levels while recording, because I couldn't change them later.
