about

THE PLUMBER, SF, ca. 1990-1992
Ah, The Plumber. This is the band that broke my heart, and the reason I'm such a bitch about bands in general. I mean, I know and I knew even before all of it happened that there's no future in bands, but somehow I suspended my disbelief in this case; maybe that was because this band represented to me the culmination of many years of striving for a certain kind of situation- one in which uniquely talented humans with complimentary outlooks dared democratically to make pertinent art, and succeeded at it in spite of what the rest of the world thought. After three years in the crucible, the others opted to throw me out. I've got a lot to say about it. Maybe I will say it some day.

Track Name: Music
Silver in the sun
As long as we can make forever last
Music
Played us through
Night's supple magic

We turned on dawn that day, I swear
We turned on dawn that day, I swear
Like Black Orpheus, slippin' slidin'
With no remorse, we
Slapped ourselves to sleep
Track Name: Slowly But Surely
I could learn to pray, the way of
Seeing clear is gone from my eyes
Change at last it came, now
Pain, remote, was
Only a joke

Hatred was a word, I never
Heard how big it was until Be-
Side me, it was
Hatred was a word, I never
Heard how big it was until Be-
Side me, it was
Neighbor hating neighbor

I saw my head it opened
I saw my head it opened up
I saw my head it opened up,
I saw them dead around me
I saw my head it opened wide
I died
Dear God, make them stop

Moving slowly
Moving slowly
Moving slowly
Moving slowly
Moving slowly
Moving slowly
Slowly but surely

Hatred was a word
I never heard

I saw the ground it opened wide
I saw the air it opened wide
I saw the sky it opened wide
I saw the time it opened up
I saw it moving slowly

Moving slowly
Moving slowly
Moving slowly
Moving slowly
Moving slowly
Moving slowly
Slowly but surely

Built from scratch and rising from the ashes
I am
